THE
EARTH, THE EARTH, THE POOR OLD EARTH!
The
Earth, the Earth, the poor old Earth!
Did it deserve such people on it?
Four
billion years and more have gone, it's
Shameful, just how long it took
To
make the planet fit for living,
Balance
systems, so that within
Time
a paradise took shape -
A
rare achievement, if you look
At other worlds, some cooked, some cold -
Yet
all you humans do is mould
The
place round your desires,
To
feed the greed that never tires
Of
gobbling the earth's resources,
Tempting
the revenge of forces
Far
beyond the tight control
You
think you have, but on the whole
You
haven't, as you're finding out
From floods and winds and killer droughts.
You've
only been around a tick of time,
But look - the mayhem you've created -
Just
cause to be annihilated?
Evolution's
such hard work
And
when it leads to human beings,
One
wonders - was it worth it, seeing
That
these erect and top range apes
Were
just the chaps to wreck the place!
